On Friday, June 24th Canadians are invited to join the International Maritime Organization in celebrating its sixth Day of the Seafarer.  The International Sailors Society Canada is hosting a barbeque at noon on the patio located outside the Chamber of Shipping offices at 1111 West Hastings Street, Vancouver, BC and is rallying members of industry to join in the celebrations to recognize seafarers and their important contribution to our maritime sector.  To show your support,  purchase a button from the ISSC secretariat for $25.  This includes your entrance to the event which includes a BBQ lunch. A button order form is attached.

Accepting Applications for 2016 Grants

The International Sailors' Society Canada is now accepting applications under our grant program. Successful applicants must be able to demonstrate a need for financial assistance and provide details of operations in support of visiting seafarers in Canada.  The deadline for applications is May 13, 2016.  

To apply, submit the completed Grant Application Form to our offices before the deadline.

We are pleased to announce the final amount raised for the 2014 UK Three Peaks Challenge is $15,600. Thank you to all our donors for their more than generous support toward this fundraising campaign. These funds will assist us to provide support for seafarers visiting Canadian ports, particularly at the local Seafarers' Centres where they will often go for camaraderie or to participate in activities.

Your support is greatly appreciated. Stay tuned for future initiatives as we enter the new year.

Hanby, Carolyn Sue (1943-2013)

After a long and private struggle with cancer, our long serving volunteer, Executive Secretary, Honouray Board member and friend, Sue Hanby, passed away on October 12th.  She will be sadly missed by her husband of 48 yrs Bernard, daughters Lynn (Simon) and Tamara (Bartz), grandchildren Joey, Emma, Soleil, Nika, Liam, Dylan, Xaviera, and Amani Mae, and all of us at the International Sailors' Society Canada.

The Board of Directors of the International Sailors' Society Canada has established annual bursary that will be awarded in honur of Sue Hanby.  Each year the ISSC will call for applications from students that are registered or enrolling in a program associated with the marine industry.
